Utah’s beautiful red rock landscape, miles of winding river for exciting water activities, and more will have you planning your Memorial Day trip to the area with no question about another destination. Memorial Day is the traditional kick-off of the summer season, and with the number of places loosening current restrictions, you’ll want to prepare for lines and long waits at the most popular destinations. With highs already heading toward the 90s, you won’t want to stay outside long, so you’ll want to make the most of whatever you do, but you’ll find plenty of ways to fill your time and enjoy every moment of your Moab getaway. Don’t forget your camera!
Dead Horse Point State Park
The drive to Dead Horse Point State Park is worth it to see one of the state’s most spectacular state parks. In fact, the view from Dead Horse Point is one of the most photographed vistas in the world! Stand 2,000 feet above the Colorado River and take in the breathtaking panorama of Canyonlands’ pinnacles and buttes which took millions of years to form.
Hiking Holiday in Moab
Red rock vistas, the Colorado River, and miles of trails in state and national parks, you’ll have no trouble in finding places to wander in Moab. Lace up your boots, grab your water and sun protection and head out for an adventure of a lifetime. You’ll find plenty of trails for every skill level with big payoffs at the end like creeks, waterfalls, and breathtaking scenery without crowds.
Petroglyphs at Newspaper Rock
For thousands of years, humans have left their mark on the land and tried to communicate their stories. If you wonder what life was like 2,000 or more years ago, head over to Newspaper Rock to “read” the news. The amazing petroglyphs are located along the Indian Creek Corridor Scenic Byway in Bears Ears National Monument. You’ll find the communication of Native American Indians including stories, hunting patterns, crop cycles, mythology, and many other aspects of life and culture. The signs and symbols feature humans, animals, tools, and even abstract symbols modern-day researchers have yet to decode.
Giant Museum and Dinosaur Park
Unique and interesting fun for everyone, the Moab Giants Museum and Dinosaur Park is a place like none other. You’ll learn about the dinosaurs that inhabited the area millions of years ago and get a chance to walk alongside their real dino tracks on the dinosaur trail. The trail features over 100 life-sized dinosaurs located near the tracks believed to have been left behind by them. The “Giants” may look real and fierce enough to frighten you away, but rest assured the dinos here are not alive. Bring a mask and call ahead to make sure all of the exhibits are available for viewing.
